Online Courses

Museumwise has developed a series of four, 4-week online Collections Care & Preservation Courses and a 6-week Collections Management 101 course. Museumwise will be previewing a new 4-week Care and Handling of Costumes and Textiles Course for Fall 2012. These courses are an ideal way for museum staff and volunteers to receive inexpensive but important training with a flexible schedule.

New! Care and Handling of Costumes and Textiles

​Course taught by Sarah Stevens

​Fall 2013

This 4-week online course will provide an introduction to the factors effecting the preservation and care of textiles and costumes. An overview of fibers and fabric structures will be reviewed. Participants will learn about appropriate techniques for handling and storing collections along with recommended sources for supplies. Additional considerations for exhibiting costumes and textiles will also be discussed.

Collections Management 101

Fall 2013

Collections Management 101 is designed for staff and volunteers at small and mid-size organizations. The course content was initially created by conservator Gwen Spicer, collections specialists Joann Lindstrom, Patti Ford and Linda Norris.
