Museum Institute at Sagamore
The Museum Institute at Sagamore is a reflective, intensive, four day retreat at Great Camp Sagamore in the Adirondacks that gives New York State museum staff, trustees & volunteers the opportunity to learn, reflect, and work with their colleagues from across the state.
Have you been curious about the Museum Institute at Sagamore? Are you a Sagamore alum, looking to reconnect with friends from the Institute? Join us for a Taste of Sagamore Dinner, Sunday, April 14th 7-9 pm at Phoebe’s Restaurant, 900 East Genesee Street, Syracuse NY 13210. Featuring eclectic American cuisine, dinner at Phoebe’s will surely put us in mind of dining “like a Vanderbilt” in Great Camp Sagamore’s dining hall. Join us as we reminisce about our adventures in the Adirondacks and plan ahead for the 2013 Institute. The cost to attend this event is only $45. All proceeds go to support Museumwise: MANY’s Museum Institute at Sagamore.
Additional information & registration for this event is listed on the Museums in Conversation Conference website.
The 2013 Institute is September 24-27th. Acceptance to the Institute is by application only. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until August 9, 2013. The application will be posted here in early May. Please email Catherine (or call 800-895-1648) with any questions.

About the Institute
The Museum Institute at Sagamore provides museum staff & trustees opportunities in a historic, reflective setting to:
- Grow individually and professionally
- Think creatively about the impact and potential of museums
- Build diverse networks
- Acquire the skills needed to advance the work of their organizations
Begun in 1997, the Institute is held at Great Camp Sagamore in the Adirondacks, a National Historic Landmark that provides a unique setting for learning and reflection.
In the words of past participants:
“I have learned so much. New ideas, possibilities, and changes that will create a much more active and engaging museum. ”
“All the presenters were great…. it is the most valuable conference I have been to. ”
“It reminded me of how much I love what I do; and how important and powerful our organizations can be in our community. ”
“I thought this whole conference was invigorating and enlightening!”
The Institute is created by Museumwise, an organization that provides a wide variety of training and professional development opportunities for museums in New York State. The institute is made possible, in part, by support from the New York State Council on the Arts.
